Observer accuses Eustice of hiding lobbyist links

Yesterday's Observer carried a story about Conservative candidates who have links to lobbying firms which they don't fully disclose to their would be electorates.

Among the candidates to be named is Camborne, Redruth and Hayle Tory George Eustice. Here's what they said about him:

"George Eustice, Cameron's former press secretary, fighting the three-way marginal in Camborne and Redruth, Cornwall, has failed to disclose on his campaign site that he works for powerful Westminster lobby firm Portland, which acts for Google, Tesco and McDonald's."

Thank you for drawing my attention to this,I share your moral outrage at these people,I find it incredible these people are allowed to walk the streets let alone be PPCs,its a disgrace, how could a party allow such people to be associated with them, whatever next,if we arent carefull well have porn directors as PPCs,Imagine your outrage if that ever happened...

George Eustice is, of course, free to undertake any work he wants to. The key to this story is not that he is a lobbyist - it's about what information is given to people he asks to vote for him.

Many people think that lobbyists are in the pockets of big corporations and will stick up for them rather than their constituents. I am sure that Mr Eustice will disagree and he should argue that out rather hide his paymasters from the voting public.

The difference between him and Anna Arrowsmith is that she has been very open about what she used to do for a living.

If George Eustice declares on his website exactly what he does and which clients he works for then voters can judge for themselves whether they think he is right to be their MP or whether they think he will be in the pockets of his employing firms.

Id have thought youd have learnt fron your "illegal" and "dodgy money" comments with regards to Lord Ashcroft, but no here we go again with "in the pockets""his paymasters" oh dear oh dear once again the Lib Dems grovel around in the gutter.

The Lib Dems can talk! I thought it was pretty apalling how the LibDem paper the Cornish voice presents George Eustice as being "a spin doctor parachuted in" when he's in fact a local boy.. I can vouch for that as I went to school with him 25 years ago, as did you, I believe! Now that's disengenous and dishonest!!!
